Volunteer

It's said that life gives back what you invest, and if you have a volunteer spirit, you're certain to have found that to be true. Community television embraces volunteers, for they are the lifeblood of public access. ‘Ōlelo Community Television, is an organization that owes its very existence to its volunteers. ‘Ōlelo volunteers are involved in exciting, important work that helps them learn and grow. What's more, ‘Ōlelo volunteers have fun.

‘Ōlelo is committed to free speech, which is why you see your neighbors and friends expressing themselves on our public access channels. ‘Ōlelo provides a convenient way for all O'ahu residents to get their messages on the air. But creating a program for air is time consuming and labor intensive, so there is a consistent need for volunteers to help on productions. Whether you're lending general production help, acting as talent on camera or doing any one of a dozens other tasks, you'll find volunteering for non-profit TV can be very rewarding.

If you don't know the first thing about running a camera or how to light a subject, ‘Ōlelo will be happy to train you. But don't let the technical aspects scare you: there are any number of ways you can help without having a degree in broadcast. And should you ever get to the point where you're producing your own programs, you'll be grateful to have a cadre of capable volunteers willing to help you.

Maybe you don't actually want to help make TV shows, but you enjoy the media and wouldn't mind the company of like-minded people. If so, you may find it rewarding to help out in the ‘Ōlelo offices, the media center or other area in a nontechnical capacity. Whatever path you choose, the experience is sure to be enriching.
