Class Descriptions

'Olelo's Class List

`Olelo offers training in numerous areas related to video production. Below is an alphabetical listing of the classes we offer. Choose the classes that best help you to promote your vision.

To sign up for classes, visit the Mapunapuna Media Center between 9:30 am and 9:00 pm. Payment is required to enroll in classes. Olelo accepts cash and personal checks.
If you are unable to attend a class for which you are registered, please contact the 'Olelo Training Dept. at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to appear without advance notice will forfeit your payment.

Feather-Pack
For clients who are Studio certified, we have two "mini-EFP" packs. These units contain a switcher, CG, two DVCPro decks, and can accommodate up to four cameras. Designed to be portable and run by 3 people or more, the mini-EFP is a great alternative to a full van production.

Field Lighting
Good lighting in the field is essential to the success of your project. The Field Lighting workshop covers basic three point lighting, placement and mixing. OFFERED EVERY OTHER MONTH

Field Tech
Field Tech class covers basic operation of 'Olelo's industrial field equipment. The class covers the DSR-300 camera, a high quality camera that relies on manual operation.

Time: Two four-hour classes.
Included materials: DSR-300 Guidebook
Prerequisites: Mini Cam certification and 20 hours of volunteer service.

Production
A comprehensive class a
vailable at Mapunapuna offering Producer, Camera and Editing instruction.

Producer: Learn basic video production and the certification process, policies and procedures, production forms, script terminology, composition, communicating your message, directing, volunteerism and the role of a producer.

Camera: Learn to work with a small prosumer camera similar in size to most palmcorders. It records professional-quality images on digital tape. Included in the course are good shooting practices, safety and organization, camera basics, technician's roles and audio.

Editing: Learn non-linear editing with a Mac based computer editing program. The course includes beginning a new project, logging and capturing, learning program windows, organizing your clips, basic editing, trimming, adding b-roll, creating graphics, transistions, audio and music.

Two sections are held each month followed by a screening of class projects at a networking party.

ShopTalks
ShopTalks is a one day class in advanced techniques of video production. The topic varies from class to class. Seating is often limited so sign up early! OFFERED QUARTERLY.

Studio
'Olelo's studio is the all-in -one production tool. In this ten-hour class, you will be introduced to the world of multi-camera production. You'll learn the fundamentals of set design, lighting design, camera operation, floor directing, technical directing, audio board operation, VTR operation, and directing.

Time: Two five-hour classes and two volunteer productions.
Included materials: Studio Guidebook, Lighting Guidebook
Prerequisites: Introduction to 'Olelo.

Van
For clients who have completed Studio certification, the Electronic Field Production (EFP) class moves into the realm of mobile production. 'Olelo maintains an EFP van outfitted as a mobile studio. You'll learn how to incorporate the complexity of a multi-camera production with the uncertainty of on-location events. OFFERED QUARTERLY.
